"Piper"
submitted by Bonnie Young, Maine
Piper's story is one of Loyalty. Before Piper came to us he lived down on the Cape with his owner, who loved him very much. His owner passed away in his sleep one night, leaving only Piper in the house. A couple of weeks went by before anyone found Piper and his owner. When the police went in, they found Piper laying beside his owner. Piper survived by eating from the trash and drinking from the toilets in the house. Piper was an NEOESR placement, so he was returned to NEOESR. He joined our family soon after. Piper took to my husband (Mac) right away and always slept on his side of the bed. At least once a night Piper would get up and put his nose on Mac's face. As soon as Mac petted his head he would lay back down until morning. We think he was checking to make sure Mac was still alive. Piper lived the rest of his life with us and was just as loyal to us as he was to his former owner. At twelve years of age, Piper went to the Rainbow Bridge to meet his former owner, never again to be parted. Piper was the true meaning of "man's best friend" in how loyal he was. We miss you Piper.
